Welcome on the PLACO project
The project
PLACO is a collaborative platform generator. It provides the way to automatically deploy well-known software (subversion, sympa, openldap, apache, etc.) to build a coherent set of services, on an single physical Linux server.
Technology
To assume modularity and isolation, the generated platform used virtualization technologies : each service is a virtual machine. The VM interact with the host through a internal local network, and exchange with the outside through a reverse proxy.
Current state
PLACO is designed to be Linux distribution independant, and hypervisor independant. But at this time, only Linux Debian Lenny Linux is supported for the host and the VM, and Xen is the only hypervisor supported. See more on README.
We hope that other distributions and hypervisors will be supported as soon as possible (it's a call for contribution ;-) ).
License
PLACO is a free and open source software. See LICENSE.
Pre-requisite, download and installation
You are a sysadmin, and you want to offer to yours users some collaborative tools. PLACO can help you !
- first prepare a dedicated Debian host,
- then download install_debian.sh
- and run it.
The platform will be ready ! See INSTALL for the complete procedure.
Documentation
To see how PLACO works, you can read README files in svn repository. You have also a directory doc. At last, you can read the FrequentlyAskedQuestions (FAQ).
And if you want to known about the history of the project, see the PLACO project web site
Contribution
If :
- you are a Linux sysadmin, and
- you want to use a special Linux distribution for the host or the VM, or
- you want to use a given hypervisor, and
- you have time to help us to port the PLACO templates
